Square Circle

The stand of the AHCI (Acad?mie horlog?re des cr?ateurs ind?pendants) at Baselworld 2006 presented a brand-new creation from John C. Ermel, based on a previously unexplored horological principle. This original mechanism enables a circular rotation of the minute wheel which is transformed into a quadrangular movement (by means of hypotrochoid gearing). In this way, the rotating motion of the hands adjusts to the minute scale and to the square case. Form and function blend harmoniously, as indeed in all of the research and creations by John C. Ermel. After several years of work, his idea has finally been revealed to the public in the shape of a table clock.
